To Speak or Not To Speak

Listening has become overrated.

This question has been in my mind for sometime now...do we listen as much as we speak?

Have you ever tried sitting in a room where everyone is talking all at once continuously? It is like many horses neighing at once. Your head would feel like it's trying to explode with all unintelligible sound. It ceases to be a conversation at that point and just becomes plain old noise.Yeah, it's not pleasant. Also it wouldn't get anyone anywhere.

Unfortunately, that's what's happening now days. Every single person wants to voice out their opinion.  It's not a bad thing. In fact, it's a valuable gift that democracy has given us. The freedom of speech. Thanks to the technology it is possible!

Everyone, everywhere, even in the remote corners of the world are able to connect with one another with the help of the internet and social media. It is a blessing. Because hey, my blog exists due to that. We are all so excited and eager to share what's on our mind that we ignore anyone else. Listening has become overrated. Everyone wants to be heard. But, if we all keep talking who is gonna be there to listen?

To Speak or not to speak

We have forgotten the art of listening and I don't just mean hearing. But, actually, legitimately listening to another person. Because, apparently everyone should and must have an opinion on every single thing even if they don't know anything about it! Because everyone wants to be the "Original and Cool" guy who has a different thought on the matter even if sometimes the said thought does not make sense in any way.

If you wanna know, I'm a huge talker. I'm one of those people who loves talking just for the sake of it and it's hard to get me to shut up. So, I decided that from this day I would listen to people a little more and take into consideration their opinion

I understood that I wasn't to decide whether To speak or not to speak.
It was to listen as much as to speak.

Hope you liked this post. Please do share your opinion on the matter! Comment and Let me know!

  1. So, I don't usually talk when there's a LOT of people! It makes me nervous! However, if tehre are like, 5 or 6 other people, I won't shut up!!! It's not one of my best traits but I do really love to talk. Especially if it's about books! When there's a large group of people, though, I do listen. Though, if there's a HUGE group, sometimes I just ignore everybody and read my book. It may seem a little rude but if there's 10 other people talking, nobody needs me to be talking as well and thus far, nobody seemed to mind. Interesting and thoughtful post!

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I know! I can't open my mouth when there are too many people, but if it's a topic I'm really interested in, I'll talk and debate so much that they have yell at me to "Shut up". But, I've been with people who would just keep interrupting when you want to say something and they won't even wait until you finish because they're so intent on getting their point across, so being in your own world is so much better than that and hey, who wouldn't mind finishing a sweet book :D

Hello *waving* I love hearing from you guys, but as we can't see each other face to face and talk, we'll just have to make do with our keyboards! So, the keys are all yours! :D
