What is happening to the Young Adult Genre?

I noticed something when I made my Series I Will NOT FINISH post and I've been meaning to write about it, now, here it is!

So, as you already know, I'm an avid YA reader. I LOVE Young Adult books. If you think children's books are too childish and adult books are too adult-y for you, then YA is the middle line. It's the perfect balance (For, the record, I love both children's and adult books, still, I'm just pointing out a fact :D)

Twilight ex Machina!

Day by day, I see increase in the people who've read Twilight or a book similar to it and loved it, so they are pick up their laptop to write a YA "book". Of course, I'm not saying all YA authors do it, but those who do outweigh those who don't.
It makes me so mad cause many YA books that are actually better in so many ways get pushed to the back because of ones like these.

I don't think Twilight is a great piece of literature. I would compare Twilight to  M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening. You see that movie and you immediately know even the actors who worked in it knew it wasn't making sense, but they just rolled with it and were like "Let's just get this over with *sigh*"..At a point in the movie I laughed when people were dying left and right (a few by a lawnmower...um..yeah..) The  movie is so horrible that it's epically Hilarious (It's still better than Twilight though..By a Lot).

Twilight is a guilty pleasure series. Period. I love the movie Supernova, it's one of my guilty pleasures, but if anyone said that movie sucked I would probably agree..because it does suck on a cinematic scale..

Luna & Harry

After Dinner, I comfortably settled on my bed and I started watching some Harry Potter videos on Youtube and then I came across this video of Harry and Luna. Now, you know I LOVE Luna! She is one of my most favorite character in the Harry Potter series, more than any other female in the series (Maybe except Lily). I don't remember much about them in the books, but in the movies I think Harry and Luna had a great chemistry together. Every single scene they have together, you can see this spark between them.

http://www.fanpop.com/clubs/harry-potter/answers/show/170161/can-harry-potter-luna-lovegood-pics-with-togater

I like Harry and Ginny together in the books, mostly because Ginny's character had more depth and development. But, in the movies, Ginny's like meh...the whole Harry and Ginny thing felt like it came out of nowhere...Yeah, she had crush on Harry, but I always felt like they shoehorned that because it was in the source material and they absolutely had NO CHEMISTRY!!

I so badly wanted Luna and Harry to become a couple. These are the reasons I think they should've went that route. I'm only taking into consideration the movies and not the books, because it's been so long since I read them, anyways I really like Ginny in the books!

Letters To Characters #2: Harry Potter from (Duh! Do I even need to say which book & movie?!)

Hello Folks!!
http://www.awesomebookassessment.com/2014/06/letters-characters-2.html
Letters to characters is a Awesome meme hosted by Alicia The Awesome @ Awesome Book Assessment. In this feature, we write letters to characters. They can be about anything, really. If we didn’t like something they did in their book/series, we could yell at them about it or suggest something they should have done, or give advice some other way, or just gush about how awesome they are. And also- these don’t have to be book characters; they can be movie characters, TV show characters, webcomic characters, manga characters, whatever.

MAY CONTAIN SOME MINOR SPOILERS!

Dearest Harry,

I don't know how to begin this letter, because I mean, it's you! I have so much to say and I feel like my vocabulary isn't enough (I have a pretty big vocabulary, believe me!:D)!  I cried for two whole days without interruption when Dobby died (Even now I'm choking up just thinking about it) and he truly was the bravest elf I have ever seen. I'm glad he got to be free.

Dear Alyssa,

You've a very strong female protagonist, the stuff you had to go through were pretty horrible. I really like you. But, that does not mean I will stand by while you have an awesome guy like Morpheus in your life and yet you choose Jeb! I mean, I get it, you don't want anything to do with all the Wonderland stuff and just want to live a normal life, but you don't appreciate Morpheus enough!

A Friendly Shout Out!

Hey guys!

You may be knowing how hard it is to start a booktube, cause it's a freaking camera and it's so weird & awkward on so many levels!

We all have considered starting it at one point and still probably do! But, it's not happening for me, even though I would love to just like talk to you guys person to person, with my own facial expressions and not a freaking gif  (though they are my lifesaver at this point!) of a jell-o or Jon Snow to convey my emotions!

I can barely smile for a photograph naturally, because it gets so weird and talking to a camera and uploading it on youtube...Not Gonna Happen!

“Why I Love the Young Adult Genre” - Guest Post by Author Sherry Soule

Today we have author Sherry Soule who has some exciting news to share with all of us! She has published a brand new upper YA book, LOST IN STARLIGHT (paranormal romance with a Sci-Fi concept) with exciting suspense and an awesome premise.

To help promote this interstellar love story, Sherry is doing this fun guest post on Flickering Lights to share the news with you fellow booklovers.
I want to thank her for writing this amazing post and sharing her views on one of the most popular book genre. Okay, I don't want to take all the spotlight here. I'll hand over the keyboard to our guest :D

Hi everybody, I’m author, Sherry Soule—waving from the SF Bay Area. Thanks for letting me visit today, it’s an honor to be a guest here and meet fellow booklovers.

YA (young adult) Lit is a general term used for books aimed at the teen market. Nowadays, these books can be read by anyone at any age.

Ever since I was a child, I have recognized that books are a way to travel to other places and have incredible adventures. Even though I am older than the average teen reader, I’ve always loved reading Young Adult books and strongly believe you’re NEVER too old to read them. A great book is simply a great book regardless of its intended audience. I read both adult and young adult novels, and equally love both.

What is your favorite book-to-movie adaptation?
Lord of The Rings Trilogy!!!! These movies defined the word Epic and brought those beloved books to life so beautifully. I can't find words to do these movies justice, cause that's how perfect it is. It adapted such a complex series into a trilogy that even a little kid can enjoy. Do I really need to say anything more? If you haven't watched them yet (Have you been stuck in limbo???!!), please do, RIGHT NOW, for the sake of all that is holy!!!!!!!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

My New Rating System

Hi again!! Two announcements in a day! I have a very good feeling about this year :D

You may have noticed in my reviews [that is if you check them out. If you don't read my reviews..I mean why not? New Year is a good time to try new things ;)] that I do not rate any of the books I read. It's because I do not believe in the star or number rating system. I mean how can you tell the difference between a book that 3 stars and another that's 3.5? I never figured it out.

But, recently I've been getting a lot of requests to review books and well, you can't review a book for someone and not rate it.

Blog Button Exchange!!

Hello Guys! New Year brings new opportunities and changes! I've been meaning to create a button for my blog and now, after a lot of time and effort, I did it!

I want to create a separate widget for all the awesome and wonderful blogs I follow and I need to know who all have a button for their blogs, cause it's really hard to go and check every single blog to see if they do. I also want to meet many new bloggers in the blogosphere.

Comment and Let me know, so I can add your blogs. In exchange, do please, spread the love and word about my blog by grabbing my button :)
